I am sorry I missed Diesel tonight. I had a better offer.

[personal profile] danceboy and I decided that it was high time we checked out the North End. We've lived in Boston for years, and neither of us has ever been there. Also, we had heard rumors that the North End has good restaurants, and we thought it might be nice to wander into the neighborhood and take our chances.

There is at least one exceedingly good restaurant in the North End.

Eating dinner at a really good restaurant is like paying for people to love you for two hours, only it's perfectly legal, unimpeachably moral, and you can bring friends.

I had salmon with five-grain risotto, and gave up on eating the fish halfway through, after I realized that I was reluctant to do things that meant I stopped tasting the risotto. They threw in a fresh basil leaf, which I believe was an attempt to advance the aim of Italian world domination through food. It was a damned effective attempt. I am all kinds of in favor of Italian world domination. And then there was dessert, which was this coffee flavored thing with a burnt sugar crust over something the approximate weight of cappucino foam, speckled with bits of bitter chocolate, and some really amazing grappa.

At the moment, the boy is Party Tzaring for Arisia, and I am gloating like a wild gloating thing. In the past, I have been told that it's helpful that I keep the Party Tzar mellow - can I get volunteer hours for this? I'm going to trip him later too. How much of that gets me a free membership?

-Blue eyes, if you ever choose to pay me to love you for two hours, I can't promise legal or moral, but you can definitely bring friends . . .

-Curiosity abounds: Name of restaurant?

my sensei is of the opinion that the Italians could conquer the world if they were able to ignore their own food...  but i think, at such cost, who'd want the world?

In my role as free-floating Arisia troubleshooter, I must ask you to let me know if you need assistance with this terrible task. :)
