So passes the glory of Monday
Jun. 26th, 2005 12:30 pmThe sprinkler is going in the backyard, and I have deadheaded the roses. We got a whole bunch of new roses this year, and it's not yet clear which, if any, will pass the Nielsen-Hayden test for worthiness. Chihuly and Betty Boop are doing fabulously, and Fair Bianca and Prospero are working up to truly spectacular things, as is a rose confusingly named "Lilac", and another which I suspect was an Austen rose, but which I cannot recall the name of (the tag is lost). Of the roses we planted last year, Country Dancer is blooming happily, but we haven't seen anything off of Double Delight or Hot Cocoa.
My aunt assured me that I'd be lucky to get a single bloom off of each of the daylilies this year, but the daylilies themselves don't seem to have gotten the memo. Some haven't produced a single bud yet, others have come out with as many as a dozen.
The last lilium in my yard should bloom sometime in the next few weeks. Every flower catalog I've received for the past months has fallen open to the page with lilies on it, but I'm afraid that I just can't grow them. There are only so many plants that I can fight the beetles for.
I should weed, but it's much too hot. I think I might make the most of the sprinkler while it's running.
