It transpires that the expander under my right pectoral is slowly leaking, which totally explains the way that, no matter how much saline they put in it, it subsides over a few days from hemispherical to ... well, not hemispherical. Sort of like a cowcatcher, in roughly a B cup.

Because of this, I will need more surgery. They need to replace the existing expander with one that doesn't leak. They can do this after I've had a while to recover from chemo, they say, maybe around the middle of December? Which is a terrible idea, because I don't want to spend the holidays reminding the kids not to jump on the site of Mama's most recent operation. If it turns out that it's safe to delay radiation a while longer, my preference for surgery is sometime in January.

Okay, that's a lie. My preference for surgery is never, but I would put up with January.

I remember sometime around Thanksgiving or so being one of the options given for J's surgery, a couple years ago. We declined for similar reasons. It's so much easier to enjoy the holidays without major recovery going on at the same time. January worked well for us; I hope it remains an option for you.

Oh, how frustrating. I'm with you on the "my preference is never" side of things, but yeah: hopefully waiting until after the holidays will be okay. Good luck, and *hug*.

January does indeed sound like a much better option.

I'm always happy to see you. But I'll acquire a bra and put a duck in, if it makes things clearer.

Speaking as a child of a mama who has had many surgeries over the years, the holidays still happened, and we still had a fine time, even with un-jump-on-able mamas (who also have seemed to have fine times, if not exactly the times they'd have preferred). I hear your preference for never, or January, and will assist if I can to make those possible, or to make sooner more palatable...
