When I started this LJ, I told myself that I was going to keep it for writing funny things, thus avoiding all kinds of overshare and drama. It turns out that funny can include a ton of overshare, and I fairly frequently pass up topics because I could make myself roll on the floor, but there would be drama. It's been a good policy for me, and I am seldom inclined to drop it, but I largely haven't felt up to writing funny things lately, so I haven't been writing.

But there's this thing out there - some of you have undoubtedly heard of it - a stand-up set that Tig Notaro did this past summer, about her cancer diagnosis.

It costs five bucks. I highly recommend it. I don't really know from art, because I have a bachelor's degree where I learned that I can't define it, and it's funny stuff, but it's hard to call it comedy. It's just, when we open our mouths, we don't always contribute to the sum of interpersonal understanding. So this is worth something.

I get occasional email blasts from Louis CK, and his last one was about just this. I was wondering if you'd seen it and here we are.

Part of this was on last week's "This American Life," so those who want a sample before they spend their $5 can go check it out.

I listened, and immediately thought of you. It seemed about a gazillion times more like your cup of tea than Breast Cancer Awareness Milanos.

P. J. O'Rourke published a humorous bit about cancer a few years back that's in the same neighborhood.

Wow - that's PJ in a seriously gallows mood. A slightly different neighborhood.

Gallows, yes. But ultimately hopeful. And with the same basic snark that's his usual mode.

Hey, this article (in my paper today) made me think about your "ten kilometers is a gateway drug" post: http://www.startribune.com/lifestyle/health/174861751.html

(If that link gives you a gateway, try the Chicago Trib, instead: http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2012-09-26/health/sc-health-0926-bc-exercise-20120926_1_breast-cancer-cancer-prevention-and-control-usual-care )
