This morning started daycare's "summer camp" phase, otherwise known as the two months a year during which I fight with Danger Lad! about bathing suits every morning. Daycare would like the kids to come in wearing bathing suits, so they can be taken to play in the water without a lot of tedious getting changed. DL! objects. We have a daily conversation about how wearing a bathing suit does not represent a commitment to get wet. I suspect that I could solve this problem forever by acquiring an array of swim trunks with licensed characters on them. Unfortunately, Target sells out of these items in approximately three minutes every summer, and those three minutes fall neither during my pre-season, "hey, I could get the kids bathing suits!" moment in April, nor during our mad "crap, we don't have enough bathing suits" moment in July. Unless the licensed characters are princesses, in which case they will never be out of stock.

Hotspur's bathing suits this year all have ruffly little skirts on them. She will take them off when she is dead.

On Thursday, I have to go subject myself to more imaging. This is making me horribly nervous. On the one hand, imaging is very seldom painful. Even the discomfort of a mammogram kind of pales in comparison to many of the other things I've been through lately. On the other hand, imaging gives us information, and the last several rounds of information have all been bad news, with the possible exceptions of the rounds that were misleading. I'd like this set of imaging to be both accurate and unexciting. Cross your fingers for me?

Definitely crossing fingers, toes, etc.

On bathing suits: Amazon Prime? When moving, I found that the sanity saving per unit dollar it provided was significant.

I resisted Amazon Prime for years, then succumbed to the lure and seriously, it's sort of like having a personal concierge who will deliver almost anything I want to my doorstep in two business days. Or, for an extra $4, by tomorrow. (Tomorrow would sometimes be "tomorrow," as in, "actually the day after tomorrow, but very early in the day.")

Yeah. Prime is the best thing ever. And it includes a large catalog of stuff on Instant Video for free. And Amazon has a Roku app, so we can stream it straight to the TV for nothing.

Right now, we're working our way through Doctor Who for zero dollars.

Amazon Prime is like having a Netflix subscription plus free two-day shipping on all kinds of stuff you actually want. For less than Netflix charges.

(Did I mention the free Kindle books, too?)

Do you get paid for this comment?

I have Amazon too. I have avoided hooking it to the Roku because of DL!'s fantastic ability to manipulate the remote all by himself and my lack of interest in accidentally buying things. But yes, it's quite nice.

Ooh! There's a job opportunity! Getting paid to shill for Amazon online!

Alas, I am still unemployed, and not getting paid for much of anything.

You can put a password on your Roku to keep him from accidentally buying things. And I think you can turn off the ability to buy stuff through the Roku at all.

Thank you so much for doing that search. We have Amazon Prime, and that particular problem is now, I hope, solved as of Wednesday. I hope.

WIll do

Keeping good thoughts your way. Sorry I don't have any swim suits DL!'s size to pass on to you.

Good thoughts for you.

Completely sympathetic to the seasonal shopping for clothes angst. Similarly, it is nigh-impossible to buy kids gloves in January after they've lost the first pair and there's three more months of cold and ick to go.

Crossing fingers, toes, and eyes fro yuo.

Off-season swimsuits are ridiculously difficult to find! My latest frustration in shopping was trying to find 13yo-boy-sized black dress pants in the late spring. Took 3 stores before we found THE LAST PAIR IN THE STORE that thankfully fit. Then had to repeat the fun a week later when I discovered he needed a jacket as well. My savior: the nearby children's consignment store.

What makes me crazy is the department store definition of "off season." February is no longer winter, according to Target: the snowpants and mittens are over on the clearance racks, if they have any at all, and we're supposed to be buying sundresses and bathing suits. This is all the more crazy when we're talking about kid clothing, since the bathing suit that fit fine in February may be a full size too small when swimming lesson season rolls around in July.

They are crossed. I see Pygment has already checked the stuff our kids have outgrown and I'm sorry we have nothing worth passing on.

Fingers crossed. As for superhero bathing suits, if there exist sew-on patches of superhero logos this might fix the problem.

K and I will see you at your shindig this weekend, we're both looking forward to it.

It does sound like if only you could find a fleet of super-trunks that would reduce the arguments... I hope. I share the WTF of not continuing to sell a variety of in-season clothing and accessories in the season in which they are needed. C'mon! Who doesn't procrastinate and/or run into a situation in which you did not expect to need XYZ. I'm baffled why there are so many princess swim options. Perhaps only because you don't have the argument with Hotspur?

And as it turns out, I have a custom-made icon just for you today. How awesome is that?!
