Danger Lad! learned about Martin Luther King, Jr. today. He told bookdivalia all about it.

"And what did Martin Luther King fight?" prompted his Sunday School teacher.
"Ummm. The Green Goblin?"

Me: Who did you learn about today?
DL: Martin Luther King Jr!
Me: That's so cool! What did Martin Luther King Jr. do?
DL: Ummmm
Teacher: What did he fight?
DL: Umm... the Green Goblin...?

Answer as they learned in class was "Injustice."

Our carefully negotiated interfaith compromises, and our rational agnosticism ran up against free babysitting on Sunday mornings, and the children are now Unitarian Universalists.

Oh, that explains everything! From what I recall, it's entirely plausible that a UU Sunday School might mention the Green Goblin while discussing Martin Luther King.

(As I know I've said before, I was quite fond of my UU "religious education". It was fun to learn about a wide range of religious traditions.)

To be fair, they're not exactly being indoctrinated.

Considering last week in the nursery they had a pillow fight and Dorian's class won't be moving beyond "every person is important" and "be kind in all you do" for quite some time.
