Hotspur really wanted me to believe that she finished all of her oatmeal this morning. She handed me an empty mug just after her brother did, on the way to daycare.

When we got her to school, I discovered that she'd spooned oatmeal into her coat pockets.

That's awesome.

And "awesome" in that special way that only really earnest toddlers can be.

What a darling and clever child! Did you do things like that at a similar age?

I...wow, that seems like something out of a wacky kids movie.
Like, I can imagine kids actually doing that, in which everyone finds it hilarious except the hapless parent who has to clean it up.
But you don't think you'll ever meet someone who's actually done it with something so grossly inappropriate for a coat pocket.

I <3 her creativity and am giggling kind of helplessly...sorry!

The logic of a toddler. Gotta love it.

(Well, you don't really have to, but I imagine it helps with overall sanity to love and laugh at it.)

My first thought was "well, at least it's washable". I remember more than a few places my kids stashed food that were not so easily cleaned.

I never thought of oatmeal as being particularly washable.

I'm sure this will seem much cuter and funnier to re-read when you're about to send her off to college in a short sixteen years.

That's brilliant! Did she get a reward for being so cunning at such a young age? If she keeps this up, she'll make a wonderfully evil mad scientist.

When my little brother was about the same age as Hotspur, we developed a habit of checking his pockets for random bits while dressing him for bed in the evening. One night, Dad found four pieces of ham from dinner. "What are you doing with ham in your pockets?"

"I'm saving 'em for later!"

Ham, at least, ends up as discrete bits.

I think you may be a victim of a variant on the fabled Chinese curse, "May you live in interesting times."

"May you have clever children."

I'm sort of feeling like I should have mentioned that she'd already put chicken noodle soup noodles in the pockets... glad it got a wash.

Simultaneous "bwahahahahaha" and "OMG, I am so sorry." Clever girl.
