Gaaaaaah! Well, yes, that would do it. So sorry to hear this, but glad you've started on antibiotics. I hope your recovery now that you have the meds is swift.

Diagnosis is good. Antibiotics are good. I'm glad that things are looking up (though I'm sure they still feel miserable).

When I had micoplasmic pneumonia, it took something like two weeks (and a second doctor) before we figured out what was wrong. (Micoplasma is harder to detect in blood tests, as I recall, and my usual doctor was convinced I just had a nasty cold virus or something. My mother didn't agree.) No idea if that's what you've got, but I'm glad you at least got it figured out without undue delay.

Better living through biochemistry!

I'm sorry it's gone on so long, but very glad you should be feeling much better within 48 hours.

You are the 3rd person I've heard get this in the past month: 1 other local, and an aunt in Ohio. Do take care, my dear.

Sorry to hear that, pneumonia is nasty in any form. Rest, let the antibiotics work and get better.

For all that modern medicine sucks, it's remarkably good at dealing with things that can be solved by taking a pill. Glad you have the good pills now.

Is it reasonable that it took as long as it did to figure out?

Yes.

I first called my doctor about feeling ill on the 30th. I was in her office, diagnosed and prescribed antibiotics, on the 3rd. In between those dates, her office was closed, but I spoke to her over the phone two more times. She offered me antibiotics at least once, and I passed on the basis that we didn't have any reason to believe I had anything bacterial.

The key difference between the flu she thought I had and the atypical pneumonia I've got is that the pneumonia makes the lungs sound funny. My doc was willing to prescribe speculatively, I'm the idiot who insisted on a diagnosis before abx.
