My younger sister has selected bridesmaids' dresses. In early January, I will be standing up in an aubergine, a-line, strapless, corset-backed dress, which must, due to the vagaries of manufacturing, be ordered at least three months in advance. You may as well all begin laughing now. The alterations should be interesting. I welcome advice on foundation garments.

I told [personal profile] danceboy that he can sign up for the Bay State Marathon (October 18th), but I cannot promise that he will actually be able to run it. Should I have to call up a race official to get my husband pulled off the course because I am in labor, by god, I am going to blog it. I may have to blog it even if it doesn't happen.

I do hope you will post pictures of all phases of this dress, from the measurement taking session right on through to The Big Day.

Also, I so want to see the helicopter extraction of [livejournal.com profile] danceboy from mid-race, and his subsequent delivery to you wherever, er, delivery is occurring. But I rather imagine you would prefer such a sequence did not come to pass...

Aargh. There's no convincing her that you would blend in just fine in a similarly colored dress? Just imagining wearing a strapless dress 2-3 months postpartum makes my boobs hurt!

I second this idea, if your sister is at all open to it. I cannot offer advice on foundation garments for the dress your sister chose, although I know of an excellent store in Chicago that could; LMK if you want the phone number. If you can convince her to consider a same-color alternative, I can offer advice on alterations that can be done to add nursing access (either by you or by a seamstress of your choice). And a matching/coordinating baby sling would be a fun touch, I think. Because you know the kid will want to nurse, and only nurse, as soon as the ceremony is in full swing, as well as all the way through the reception. :)

There is a lot less to worry about on this one than I thought.

The dresses my sister would most like need to be pre-ordered 2-3 months in advance. Her thinking is, we order the dress in a size we think will be alterable to fit me, and it remains returnable until we actually start taking it apart. So if I am not in range of the ordered size after all, or the nursing issue is too impossible, we hit up some department stores, and probably David's Bridal, and we find something else. The dress also comes with a "modesty piece" - 2 yards of matching fabric which can be used as a shawl or converted into meaningful shoulder straps and possibly a bolero jacket.

I will go looking for a matching/coordinating baby sling, because there is nothing like a formal event to convince a babe that Only Mama Will Do.

Do you remember the bridesmaid dresses my sister picked out? The yellowy-peachy-taffetta... thing?

And how I conveniently had a huge fight with her about 2 months before the ceremony?

And then moved cross country?

hah! And you thought it was just because I hated my school.

\(^O^)/

I'm so relieved to see things can be worked out, because I got to the description and thought . . . eggplant. She's not only wearing eggplant, she's going to look like one.

What was your sister thinking?!

I pray for you on all other fronts, since the dress thing is now manageable.
