I am leaving soon, to meet the husband for dinner, and it reminds me that I have been meaning to post a review of dBar, on Dorchester Avenue.

dBar is a rotten place to take a date when you are still getting to know each other. You will have a lovely time, and there's a risk that, if your date is an ass, you will miss that fact in the lovely time-ness, and go on more dates than you should with someone who you'd rather not. It is best, in early stage relationships, to go to restaurants that are not perfect, so that you can see how your date bears up under mild kinds of adversity.

Once you're in a settled relationship (or once you've done those first few vital dates to check for assness), then you can go to dBar, and you assuredly should. In committed relationships, it is vital to have a perfect evening now and again - an evening during which you can hold hands, and giggle, and watch the lights change color, and face down the terrible problem of choosing between a plethora of appealing options on the menu. If, with all this to improve your mood, you are capable of fighting over who failed to recharge the batteries in the baby monitor, there is no hope for you.

Aside from the plethora of appealing menu options, they have a long and imaginative wine list, and staff that will earnestly warn you away from the more experimental cocktails on the menu. They open early for dinner at 5:30, and transition to a dance club after ten.
