Holiday Baking
Dec. 8th, 2009 04:44 pmI have spent today coating truffles with chocolate. To say that it hasn't gone well would be to understate the case. I am wondering if I really love my friends and family this much - if I have ever, or will ever in my lifetime love anyone this much. I'm pretty sure I haven't, and if I had, I could stop. It is at moments like this that I feel the pull of my husband's brand of atheism. Had I been raised Jewish, and then rejected G-d altogether, I too could be spared the delusion that it might be fun to give people handmade gifts at some winter holiday.
As a complement to these frustrations, Hotspur has been grouchy all day. She has been grouchy in two kinds of baby carriers, her crib, and my arms. She's not all that into eating. I left her on the kitchen floor for a while, and you'd have thought I had abandoned her on the Spartan hillside. Her toy dog was about to eat her entrails. She will be on the porch in the cardboard box labeled "Free to Good Home."
