I stopped by Tower Records today to remedy a few omissions in our movie collection. I picked up The Thin Man, and the 2-disc special edition Casablanca, whereupon [personal profile] danceboy begged me not to watch them without him.

He's back Sunday.

He's lucky I love him a lot, that's all.

I haven't seen The Thin Man, but I worry a little - I love the book. It would be very easy for the movie not to be as good.

The structure of The Thin Man differs from book to film, and a lot of the subtext is stripped, but the chemistry between Nick and Nora makes up for any deficiency.

I have not read the book, but I understand from those who have that the virtues of the film are not the same as the virtues of the book -- though most who have seen both seem to like both.

I've read the book, and seen the film, and what he said: they're not the same, but they're each very good of their kind.
