...not that warmer ultrasound goo makes much difference, but it's nicer than the cold stuff.
Anyway, after this morning, I am able to confirm that the baby
danceboy and I are having has the usual complement of arms, legs and head, as well as very cute eensy little fingers that are still too small to accurately count. Young Schrodinger is squirmy and healthy and due around the end of March.
Further bulletins as events warrant.

Date: 2006-09-12 08:59 pm (UTC)Since I actually feel worse when I'm lying around doing nothing, intensive resting isn't in the plan. Unfortunately, she's pretty immune to reason so far.

Date: 2006-09-14 02:31 pm (UTC)If she tries to point that you have never been one to conform to orders before, you can smile nervously and say, "It's my first baby. You know how it is."
The same technique will come in handy later on, with parenting advice. "But little Luigi's pediatrician said we have to..."
The phrase my mother-in-law (well, stepmother-in-law; in some ways, that's easier, because my husband isn't attached to her) is tired of hearing is: "You raised your kids your way, and we're raising our kids our way." I am perfectly willing to say that ten times in a row, if necessary, in response to a particularly noxious piece of parenting advice she isn't willing to let go.

Date: 2006-09-07 02:04 pm (UTC)We have agreed not to name the baby Herschel. Pregnancy is nine months long because it takes at least that much time to name a baby.

Date: 2006-09-07 02:47 pm (UTC)I dunno. I think Herschel is kinda cute. Maybe not for an adult though. Nine months is not long enough... I'm thinking I should start doing my research for my own kids names *now*.
Oh! One other important thing you didn't mention. Do you want to know the sex or do you want to be surprised?
I'm very pleased for you. Delighted, in fact :) I must say, I can't quite picture you as a mother! Ooh, that came out wrong... I didn't mean I can't see you doing the job! (I'm sure you'll be great) It's just that I can't imagine what you'll be *like*...
I seem to be babbling. I'm superfine thanks for asking kthanksbye.

Date: 2006-09-07 03:31 pm (UTC)I want to find out the sex.
I had baby names picked out when I was ten. All of my top choices are non-euphonious disasters with our last name.
I can't quite picture me as a mother either. I'm going to have to slit the "Republicans for Voldemort" shirt down the neckline. I have, however, procured the original Star Wars movies, the versions in which Han shoots first, on video. I'm trying to find someone who can transfer to DVD. Our child will not be exposed to the corruption of Lucas's later edits.

Date: 2006-09-07 03:45 pm (UTC)I'm trying to picture what names you might have picked out when you were ten that might be disastrous with your current surname. But I have to stop because I'm giggling too much. It's like a Mel Brooks movie.

And I have a similar feeling on the importance of due dates centering on margaritas. When's yours? (January 8...)

Date: 2006-09-14 11:54 pm (UTC)I can totally understand the "worn out" thing. I now have an understanding of "worn out" far more acute than I had gotten from, eg, mere 180-mile weekend bike tours, or taking 21 units with pchem at Mudd. Of course I'm told my understanding will be even more acute next year. The mind boggles. (I now have no idea how anyone has *two* kids...how can one cope with the tiredness of pregnancy while actually having maternal responsibilities? I guess amnesia is involved...)
