This morning, I tried to let Danger Lad! sleep in, and [personal profile] danceboy had the brilliant inspiration of handing him two bits of pancake as soon as he woke up. (DL! can not eat a single bit of something. He needs a bit to eat *and* a bit to hold, and he needs to be given two bits in the first place. He is fine with a torn half slice of bread in each hand, but not fine with being given a single slice, having it taken away and torn in half, and then given back to him. Since his capacity is what it is, he got two quarters of a pancake.) I will take contented murmurs of "Pancake!" over demented screams of "Not Nice!" any day, so we will be doing this again, oh yes.

Alas, the day was downhill from there. The wretched case of daycare crud I caught from DL! has overwhelmed me and they ran out of things for me to do at work (they are still reviewing the things I did last week), so I floated the idea that I could be unassigned at home and they went for it. I'm in bed now, which is much better.

Other discoveries of them morning: if I park in the bus stop rather than the handicapped zone, I save $65 when the meter maid comes by.

I just learned the two bits rule yesterday! I snuck around it with a snacktrap (which so far he can only operate by holding it in one hand -- score!), but then failed by allowing him to discover that there was a kind of food in the car that was not in his snack trap.

I hope you triumph over the crud quickly!

Ah yes, I remember when Peter did that. Shortly after he learned to exuberantly shout "Two!!" while showing me things in both hands.

I have a reaffirmed love for you because you also have a demented child who screams, "Not nice!" I blame daycare.

FOr this, as so many other things, I completely blame daycare. I blame them for teaching him the words, and then I blame them for scheduling only a two and a half hour nap so that he is perma-cranky before bedtime *and* when it's time to get up. If we move bedtime any farther forward, we will tuck the lad in before we leave work.
