This is how my nights work these days:

Hotspur sleeps in 2-3 hour stretches, nursing frantically anytime she is conscious, and often while she is not. Danger Lad! mostly sleeps, except for when he wakes up and needs to use the potty. When I get up to help him, Hostpur, deprived of sustenance, begins to howl, so I bring her along.

We sit in the bathroom while Danger Lad! tells me things about Elmo, and generalizes from red monsters to everyone and everything. Elmo was a tiny baby, but he's grown up big and strong. Like he's big and strong, and like I am, and Hotspur, is Hotspur big and strong? I say that she isn't big and strong yet (she's nuzzling my shirt in a way that suggests that, given size and strength, she'd be snapping her fingers at the waitstaff), and inquire about his progress on the potty. He tells me that he needs to poop bigger. Because it is two in the morning, I imagine that he's seen the statue of Napoleon at L'Arc de Triomphe and concluded that a mighty hero can produce his own supporting stack of cannon balls.

When do they get to be able to stagger to the bathroom by themselves in the middle of the night?
