Grouch

Last night, the kitten known as Jean Hagan got shut into my room. She snuck in while I was getting the baby monitor to take upstairs so that I could sleep with [personal profile] danceboy. Danger Lad! slept through, more or less (we're not counting a ten minute interlude of snuggling back to sleep after waking up upset), so I did not go near my room until seven in the morning.

Jean Hagan had some pretty understandable responses to being stuck in my room all night long. I am, I think also understandably, pretty grouchy about the results. To counteract this mood, I offer the list of things I should be grateful for this morning.

I am grateful that the kid let us sleep, together and everything, all night long.

I am very grateful that I did not follow my first temptation when he woke up this morning, and take him back to bed in my room to nurse, on the off chance that I could fall back asleep while he did. Had I done this, my discovery of the cat shit under my pillow would have been far more gruesome and upsetting than it actually was.

I am grateful that [personal profile] danceboy took DL! for a walk.

I am grateful for the neighbors who came by yesterday to drop off a bag of used clothes, as part of the neighborhood child-outfitting hand-me-down chain. We don't have to contemplate the mall for another couple months, by which time it is possible that the kid one up the line will have outgrown another set of clothes.
I love these bags. The stuff in them has some wear on it, but who cares. Also: there are shoes. At $50 a pair for well-made child shoes, I don't feel like we can be squeamish about used ones. I just can't see dishing out for more than one pair of new shoes at a time, but now that he's a big kid who likes to run around outside and jump in puddles, we need spares. And not just spares in his current size - there's three pairs in the next size up!

In addition to clothes, and shoes, we got a playdate out of the deal.

I live in a house with a washer and dryer in the basement, both of which are big enough to handle a full-size duvet.

The Federal Government owes us pretty significant money. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is also slightly in our debt.

I have the entire run of American Liberal Political Porn (West Wing) on DVD.
