Movie!

We saw Iron Man last night, finally. I liked it a lot. I note that evil terrorists, while demanding that Tony Stark build them a superweapon, made sure to supply him with an abundance of sexy sweaters.

I was deeply disturbed, however, to see a trailer for Twilight. It looks as though they've succeeded in capturing the feel of the book: a community theater production of Tuck Everlasting, performed by emo goths. The vampires are good! The head vampire rescued them all from certain death from infectious disease (which is why they all have that oh-so-attractive gothy pallor). They hunt - but they only eat predator species! And only those that are overpopulated in the area. (Unanswered question: Why aren't they all starving?) They fly. They prevent grisly death in parking lots. In full sunlight, vampires are sparkly.

Me, I appreciate the benefits of a Sunnydale education. And I appreciate the sexy sweaters on Robert Downey Jr. It's not hard to pander to me, really.

Checking the Wind Direction

The north side of our house is very sheltered. We have a lot of very close trees screening that side, and weather generally comes at us from the west. We generally don't bother to close the north windows, even when it rains - they stay dry.

Just a few minutes ago, I did a frantic run for those windows - the current storm is driving the rain right at our north face. Very weird.
