Me and Germany
Jul. 12th, 2006 06:21 pmI am so freaking tired, but I mean that in a good way. Goettingen is gorgeous, and they're having some kind of fest this weekend. I have no idea what kind, but I'm going.
Today I have found a SIM card for the aged Europe-enabled cell phone that
danceboy and I share and managed to install it in the phone. Even better, I have figured out how to turn the ringer on. (I don't have enough minutes to give out the number - all y'all will just have to leave me comments.) I have net via the University. The place I got my SIM card is right next to a place that sells cake.
All of these victories do nothing to offset the fact that I appear to be incapable of opening doors in Germany. I don't see why German people bother with keys - I can't even get the unlocked ones open, and my struggles with the doors of my hotel room and loaner office are EPIC.
I am totally phrasebook dependant in this country, so I'm lucky that the locals find me amusing instead of annoying. My brain stores all the non-English words in one bank, and spits them out in random languages when I'm trying to figure out what to say.
I'm heading out for dinner now, before I pass out. Tomorrow, I am taking a long lunch to stock up on local raspberries to snack on.
