Internet Connections Die Before Me
Aug. 20th, 2004 09:45 pmI have spent the last two days at work trying to get our internet connection back up. It ain't coming.
Verizon has claimed the following about our connection, roughly in this order:
It is a problem with our router, not their service.
It is a service outage.
The service outage should never have affected us, and we need to isolate our modem.
It appears that our service was cancelled. Cable pair will be yanked on Sunday. We will have absolutely no service at all - no internet, no email addresses, nada, until sometime next week when a new service order can be put in and we can set it all up again from scratch.
Once a cancellation order has been put in, nothing can stop it.
No, they cannot let me speak to a supervisor.
Once a cancellation order has been put in, it's like the tsunami heading for Tokyo, like the nukes breaching the outer perimeter. Nothing can be dune.
It turns out that the cancellation order was from last year. It was cancelled last year. They aren't disconnecting our service.
It seems to be a problem with our router.
We need to isolate our modem.
There appears to be a service outage on the DSL circuit.
There appears to be a service outage on the ISP.
After two days of this runaround, I came home with one thought in mind: wasting the evening on the internet.
Unfortunately, the macs both seem to have decided that the wireless network doesn't exist. I stomped and swore and packed up to drag the laptop to M's house even though M is at Pennsic and then realized that R took the car with him when he went dancing.
I power cycled the router. All good now. Hoping to work off my crabby mood by the time R gets home.
