Zonk

I finally figured out how to arrange the pillows so that I'm comfortable enough to sleep. The configuration is useful and memorable, so that I can get up in the middle of the night, lie back down, and be comfy again within minutes.

There was a time when this wouldn't have impressed me, but I'm past that now.

Today, I am slightly groggy. Eleven solid hours of sleep after weeks of increasing deprivation will apparantly do that to you. (Which doesn't seem fair - couldn't I be groggy while deprived, and energetic once it's fixed?) We are going to see "Wings of Desire" at the ART later, which should be spectacular, and there are things I know I should be doing, but I just can't be bothered right now. Some of those (like getting dressed), I will have to do anyway.

Right now, I need someone to tell me that, given I sent off a pre-emptive check to my credit card yesterday, it is okay if I don't open the bill that just arrived right away.

Do tell.

I mean, I've got pillows and I've been sleeping, but I'm all for better solutions ;). (Though it could be that whatever you have isn't applicable to me, as I have more severe bodily limitations at present...I am SO looking forward to being able to sleep on my stomach again in a few weeks. I am sure the baby will be cute and fascinating and all, but I'll be able to sleep on my stomach. For, you know, three hours a day, interrupted. Ah well. You can't win them all.)

I've been sleeping on my right side, so one of the firmer pillows goes under my head, and one behind my back (this one has to be snugged up, so that it keeps me from rolling too far onto my back, where I am uncomfortable). One beat-up and floppy pillow goes along my front, under the belly, and one floppy pillow goes between my legs. Seems to do the trick.

That's the exact configuration that my sister ended up with. Finally she gave up on the bed and moved to the couch in our room. with her back against the couch back, MY favorite pillow under her front, and her head on the arm of the couch. And when she went into the hospital, she sent me home at like, 2am to pick up her favorite body pillow. Please, don't do that to anybody.

But that's what husbands are *for*.

Okay, it's what they're for when you're in labor.

But I wasn't the husband. The husband passed out when they broke her water (they induced).

OK, sounds about where I am, only with more pillows.

Lately I have been taking to sleeping on opposite sides of the bed on alternating nights...I can only sleep facing the outside of the bed, but if I sleep on the same side every night, my back gets ferociously stiff. (I've always slept like a kung-fu fighter, or so I am informed by the unfortunates who have shared a bed with me; apparently this is because, if I don't move a lot during the night, my spine hates me. Well, I can't move during the night, but at least I can move between nights...)

only with more pillows.

I admit that I was initially taken aback by the required quantity, but getting over my arbitrary hangups about number of pillows has done wonders for comfort.

In a word, no.

Good - nowhere approaching spectacular.
